Station Agreement
- You run an AIS receiver that sends what it hears to Gangway AIS. We may keep, use, combine, publish and sell that data, for good, including after you stop.
- No payment either way. While your station keeps sending, your account holds Station Reserve as set out in section 4.
- Your equipment stays yours. A kit we sent stays ours.
- Either of us may end this at any time. We may refuse or remove a station.
1. Who this is between
This agreement is between Motto Marine International ("we", "us"), the company that runs Gangway AIS and you: the person or company who runs a station that feeds Gangway AIS. These are also our station terms. You accept them when you start sending data to us or when you join Station Reserve. We record the version you accepted and the date. A station with no account or that has not joined holds no plan: section 4 starts when it joins. Our Terms of Service apply to your account as well.
2. Your station
- Your station is an AIS receiver with its aerial that sends the messages it hears to us.
- You confirm that you may install the aerial and the receiver where you do: on your own property or with the owner's permission, within the rules that apply there.
- You install and run the station yourself, at your own risk.
- A station is known by its own port number or a code derived from its connection, never by its address. We never show where your station is.
- Each station has a private page at a long random address of its own that no list links to. There is no public list of stations and no public station page today.
3. The data your station sends
You grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free right to receive, store, use, combine with other data, publish, sell and pass on the data your station sends and what we work out from it and to let others do the same. This right continues after you stop, for all the data your station sent until then.
You keep your own rights to your data. This right is not exclusive: you may send your data to anyone else at any time.
You confirm that your station sends only what it receives by radio, unchanged. Do not send data from another source.
- One receiver is one station. Do not register the same receiver twice.
- Send only what your own receiver hears. Do not pass on another station's data, a network's feed or a public feed.
- Send it as it comes. Do not replay recordings as live, change times or make up messages.
- Keep the rough place you gave for the station right. If you move it, tell us.
- Our daily check compares your station with what other sources heard, as section 4 sets out. We may record everything one station sends for a short time when we need to look closer.
4. Station Reserve
- While your station keeps sending, your account holds Station Reserve, as set out on the Station Reserve page. It has no team seats and can't be bought.
- Station Reserve starts once our check has passed and your station has sent for 7 days, online at least 85 % of the hours.
- Below 85 % of the hours of a calendar month, we write to you and the plan carries on. After a second month in a row below 85 %, the plan pauses and your account returns to the plan you pay for. Vessels and ports above that plan's limit are paused, not deleted. A later month at 85 % or more brings the plan back.
- Every day we compare your station's reports with what other sources heard in its area. A station that does not match has no plan until we have looked at it. A plan already running carries on while we look. It goes on hold after three failed days in a row, or if we put it on hold.
- Station Reserve Prime is held by The Hundred. A station that joins while a place is open becomes one of The Hundred and holds Station Reserve Prime for as long as it keeps sending, under the same conditions as above. Its place stays while your account keeps the station.
- Other stations may be invited to Station Reserve Prime. Such a station may return to Station Reserve when a calendar month closes. Vessels and ports above its limit are paused, not deleted.
- Every station owner gets a private station page, a monthly email with the number of vessels the station heard and an email if the station goes quiet for 3 hours, which you can turn off. We publish no list of stations today. If we ever do, your name or company shows on it only if you switched that on.
- We may change what station owners get. We tell you before a change applies to you.
5. Your feed back
While your station holds Station Reserve or Station Reserve Prime, your account has a right to a station feed key. With it you receive what the pool hears, live, as described on the Station Reserve page. It comes with the plan and goes with it.
What you may do with the feed is set by the Station Feed Licence, which you accept when you first use the key. In short: private use, research and teaching only. No business use and no passing on in any form. Our credit goes wherever others see the data. Your right to the data ends 30 days after your key ends.
6. Equipment
- Equipment you bought stays yours.
- Equipment we agreed to send you stays ours. When you stop, you return it or keep it, as we decide then.
7. Ending
- You may stop at any time: switch the station off or write to hello@gangway.app.
- We may end this at any time. We may also refuse a station, remove it or filter, limit or stop accepting its data, without notice. We decide what is shown, kept and credited.
- When it ends, the plan ends and section 3 continues for the data already sent. Your account stays.
- When the plan pauses or ends, the feed key stops with it. The Station Feed Licence says what happens to the data you received.
8. Personal data
We keep your name, email and any rough place you gave for the station, as our Privacy Notice describes. The place is for us only: we never show it.
9. Liability
We are not responsible for your equipment, your installation, damage to property or loss from sending data to us, from interruptions or from use of the chart or the data, except where the law does not allow us to exclude it. The chart is for information only and is not an aid to navigation.
10. Law
This agreement is governed by French law, as our Terms of Service are. We may change it by publishing a new version on this page. Continuing to send data after a change means you accept it.
The Station Feed Licence has its own versions and changes as its section 13 sets out.
